Moto G (3rd Gen) Specs, Features and Price

Here's a good news especially for the fans of Motorola smartphones. The Moto G 3rd Gen has been launched in India. Moto G 3rd gen is competitively priced and it comes loaded with nice specifications and some very useful features including water resistant capabilities. It has two variants available depending upon the memory capacity.

Specifications: Moto G is equipped with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 processor with a 1.4 GHz quad-core CPU. It is available in two memory variants. One has 8GB internal storage and 1 GB RAM. It costs INR 11,999. The second variant has 16 GB internal storage and 2 GB RAM. It costs 12,999 Rs. The second variant sounds good for its price. But the first with 8 GB internal storage and 1 GB RAM might not appeal so well to consumers. Anyway, the device has 5-inch HD display with 294 pixels per inch. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has 13 MP primary and 5 MP secondary camera. It is powered with 2470 mAh battery. It has 4G LTE network capability and runs on pure Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with no skin or bloatware added to it.

That's perhaps the one quality of Motorola devices which earns it unanimous appreciation. No bloatware loaded on the smartphone. No extra launcher, and no unneeded and unwanted apps. Moto phones offer pure Android experience.

Water Resistant: The highlight of Moto G 3rd Gen is that it is water resistant. Mark the words. It is water-resistant not water proof. A little splash of water or a dip in a bucket will do it no harm. But that does not mean you can go swimming with it! The device can withstand immersion in upto 3 feet of water for upto 30 minutes. And that too when the back cover is properly sealed. That means, a bit of soaking in rain would do it no harm. But no underwater diving with it!

Camera Features: Moto G 3rd Gen has 13 MP rear camera with f2.0 lens and Hybrid multilayer IR cut filter and equipped with Dual Dynamic Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT) flash which can automatically adjust to give more natural looking photos even in dark. The front camera is 5MP with 72 degree field of view. It has a Best Shot feature which captures multiple shots before and after the shutter is clicked. It even recommends the best photo from among those clicked. And when it is dark, the display acts as a flash to add light to your selfies. One of the most interesting camera features of Moto G 3rd Gen is Quick Capture. Just twist your wrist twice while holding the phone and the device launches the camera. Twist your wrist twice again and the front camera switches on.

Chop Twice: Camera is not the only app that people might need to use in a hurry. Often times, flashlight is also needed to be switched on without wasting any time. But in most phones, the users first need to unlock the phone to switch on the flashlight. But in Moto G, the user just needs to chop at the air twice with the phone. That is, just shake the phone twice and that switches on the flashlight. Shake twice again and the light switches off.

Moto Display: This is another new feature that I liked. It enables users to see important information like time, notifications etc. without waking up the phone. If needed, the notifications displayed on it can directly lead the user to the app as well.

Design: Motorola has updated the design of Moto G and added some metallic accent around the camera. The device has a softly curved design and a textured back for more secure grip. And for those looking for added personalization, Motorola has made available shells and flip covers in various colours.

But the market now is flooded with companies offering superb specifications set at cheaper price. Considering that, the specifications being offered by Moto G (3rd Gen) may not sound very exciting at its price point. But the pure Android experience, the nice usability features like Quick Capture, Chop Twice and Moto Display are a nice add on. Besides, Motorola does enjoy a brand assurance and prestige and there are many who don't mind paying a little extra to get the assurance of durability that a big brand provides. And when it comes to durability, let's not forget the highlight of the new Moto G. Moto G (3rd Gen) is water resistant. That's something that most smartphones even more expensive than Moto G can't provide.
