 Mothers' Day Poems-
The Greatest Form Of Love
It was a warm and sunny afternoon;
Mom had given me a bowl of ice-cream and a spoon.
With that I sat on our little balcony,
And tried to cheer up in spite of the cacophony,
Of the birds that had come to perch on the adjacent Jamun tree,
To congratulate the mother crow that had given birth to siblings three.
I peered over the railings to have a look at the babies,
As the only young ones I had ever seen were my own little kitties.
The newborns looked like pink cotton balls;
They did not have eyes yet but answered all their mother's calls.
I loved the way the babies were fed by the Mama crow.
To get the larger worm each one put on their best show!
Happily, I came inside for my afternoon nap.
I woke up when on the door, I heard my mother's tap.
"There's a storm brewing, shut all the windows", she was saying.
It did not make sense to me as my head was still swaying.
I was startled back to my senses by the thunder and lightening;
The thought of the baby crows was awfully frightening.
I jumped out of my bed and made straight for the balcony.
The sky was overcast with dark clouds and it was no more sunny.
I shuddered at the thought of the newborns....
Would they all be deserted and forlorn?
But what I saw brought tears to my eyes;
Who would have thought that even something ugly and black could make a sacrifice?
The mother crow was perched with her wings widespread,
Protecting her children from the fear and dread.
The little ones sat cuddled against their mother,
A protector like her they could find no other.
She endured the pelting rain and fluffed up her feathers
But did not let her little ones face the ruthless weather.
I realized that a mother's love is truly divine;
It can withstand all the tests of age and time.
A mother's love is infinite whether you are a human or a crow,
She is the reflection of God, and it's a truth we should all know.
