Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers arrested a mother and her son, involved in drug dealing, for the killing of a fish businessman by assaulting him with poles and hacking him using swords and hitting him on the head with a sledgehammer on Thursday (10).
The mother and son taken into custody are M.H.I.Nilmini (44) and Malith Bimsara (23). Both suspects are residents of Mahamayapura, Trincomalee.
Pradeep Kumara (34) alias Bale, a fish businessman, was hacked to death by this mother and son and a group of others on the night of September 16.
Although the Trincomalee police had arrested several suspects connected to this murder, it had not been possible to take into custody this mother and son, up to now. Subsequent to area residents informing the Inspector General of Police regarding this, investigations had been assigned to the CID. Accordingly, this mother and son had been arrested and handed over to the Trincomalee police for further investigations.
