These charts reflect the results of a new ABC News / Washington Post Poll -- done June 2nd and 4th of a random national sample of 527 adults, with a 5 point margin of error. It shows the view of the American public on the eve of Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
About 61% of the public believes Trump fired FBI Director James Comes to protect himself, while only 27% believe he did it for the good of the country -- a huge gap of 34 points. And 56% say Trump is interfering with the Russia investigation, while only 34% think he is cooperating with it -- a gap of 22 points.
Americans simply don't trust Trump when it comes to this investigation -- and it wouldn't take much to convince them that Trump broke the law by trying to obstruct justice.
