The Republicans are doing their best to make it harder for Americans to vote. They are passing restrictive and unnecessary voter ID laws, restricting the time allowed for early voting, and making it necessary to register well before an election to vote in that election. They know that the fewer people who are allowed to vote, the better the results will be for them.
But the public disagrees with much of what the Republicans are trying to do. A significant 59% of the public thinks that voting should be made easier (including 57% of Independents and 84% of Democrats). That is also the opinion of both genders, all ages, all races, and all education levels. It is only Republicans that have less than a majority wanting voting to be made easier for all Americans (35%).
These charts are from a Pew Research Center survey -- done between April 19th and 23rd of a random national sample of 1,028 adults, with a 3.7 point margin of error.
