Obamacare has not been an overwhelmingly popular program with the general public -- that is, until they saw what the Republicans wanted to replace it with. After seeing that terrible replacement bill, the number supporting Obamacare has now exceeded the number opposing it.
Currently, 51% say Obamacare should not be repealed, while 43% think it should. In addition, large pluralities think the replacement plan would increase the number without insurance (48%), would increase costs for those who buy insurance (48%), and would create higher deductibles (42%). They also think it will increase the cost of insurance for everyone but the rich -- younger people (41%), older people (45%), lower income people (46%), urban dwellers (41%), and rural dwellers (42%).
And that's not all. The public really doesn't like the ban for funding of Planned Parenthood. Three out of four Americans (75%) believe the government should continue funding Planned Parenthood, while only 22% was the funding cut off.
The Republicans are bucking a strong public opinion headwind with their effort to replace Obamacare with their own inadequate plan.
The charts above are from a new survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation -- done between March 6th and 12th of a random national sample of 1,206 adults, with a margin of error of 3 points.
