It’s funny how one can literally walk on top of something for years and never notice what you are walking on.
I’ve walked on rue de Rivoli between the Palais Royal and Place de la Concorde at least 1,000 times since I moved here and only glanced partially at the mosaic floors underneath me. Last week I decided to take my time and noticed how handsomely the swirls and colors of the tiles mixed together.
Parts of the tile have been worn down or replaced with cement but some of the leftover mosaics harken an era long gone where each shop has its name spelled out. When I see Sulka, I envision the colorful custom made silk pajamas and ties they were famous for. Luckily some of the places remain like the Brighton Hotel and Angelina’s tea salon.
I am happy to announce the launch of Eye Prefer Paris Cooking Classes. Come take an ethnic culinary journey with me and chef and caterer Charlotte Puckette, co-author of the bestseller The Ethnic Paris Cookbook (with Olivia Kiang-Snaije). First we will shop at a Paris green-market for the freshest ingredients and then return to Charlotte's professional kitchen near the Eiffel Tower to cook a three-course lunch. After, we will indulge in the delicious feast we prepared along with hand-selected wines.
