We were on the road again, towards the great Sahara Desert.
We stopped along the way, in the middle of nowhere, for a short break.
The pearly moon in the bright blue sky.
Long desolate roads that stretched on for miles. Reminded me of Nevada.
A man sitting on the side of the road. It is the most peculiar thing – so many times I saw a man, alone, or with a small group of friends, sitting by a tree, sitting, talking, watching life happen.

These posts have some photographs taken by my phone camera among them – hence the poor quality.
We were on a quest to get the perfect “jump” photo. Sadly I didn’t get one, but I think some of the others did!
This is as good as it gets. My husband missed the “jump on 3” memo.
And….thats a wrap.
Our next stop.
After a long morning of traveling we finally arrived! We had lunch, and met our camel friends!

This guy! Camels, such sweet animals. I was so grateful for them to bring us to our camp.

And we’re up!
Ready to go.
And so we set off.
The sky was so blue, and the sand- soft, warm and deep orange.
We stopped close to a large sand dune where we would climb to watch the sunset. We thanked our sweet camels and started climbing.
I soon realized it was easier to climb with my shoes off, with my feet sinking ankle deep into the warm sand. And climbing was challenging and it took me a long time to get up to the top!

We made it!
And now to sit and wait for the big sun of the Sahara to set.
A beautiful sunset.
Our campsite was on the other side of the dune. And so we ran. Oh and it was the most wonderful run. We ran together, like a pack of wolves. My bare feet sinking into the cool sand, holding my husbands hand, running as fast as we could, our laughter rolling into the wind.
Once we arrived at the camp, we put on more layers, wrapped our selves in scarves, and settled down for tea and olives. It wasn’t cold just yet, but we knew it soon would be.

As darkness set in, we sat around the fire wrapped up in blankets. We shared riddles and jokes. And then the music started. We played the drums and we danced around the fire. Happiness was everywhere that night.
And then the most incredible thing happened. We put out all the lights in the camp, and went to where the camels slept. And then we looked up. Oh my, the stars. It was the most magnificent sky I had ever seen. I have never seen stars like this. The milky way. The sky was so bright and mesmerizing. I told my husband of something I had once heard, and now felt so true – that maybe stars are holes in the floor of heaven.

The next morning we set off early to watch the sunrise before heading back to the hotel.
