Over the past few years, we've worked hard to make sure our community believes travel is achievable. We've built a business on the premise that you can take the trip of your dreams without breaking the bank - and we've helped hundreds of thousands of readers do just that.

It's great to read emails from people who've taken the plunge and booked flights they've always dreamed of and traveled to places they've always wanted to visit.

Earlier this year - throughout the century we call March, when the world closed and travel stopped - we saw our traffic drop to zero within days. So we thought about ways to continue serving our community in these uncertain times.

One idea we liked was to create a Patreon Community Funded Page, a members-only subscription service that allows people to support their favorite artists and creators online.

Keeping the community connected and inspired has been a big factor in creating our Patreon page. Last November, we launched The Nomadic Network (TNN), a community where people can create local chapters and organize travel-centric events to help each other travel better, cheaper and longer. Our goal then was to take this amazing online community that we have created over the past twelve years and take it offline, in order to foster relationships and friendships in the real world.

But then COVID came. In an effort to keep the traveler community alive, connected and inspired, we have launched two initiatives: virtual TNN events and a Patreon page. Both were aimed at serving our community and stimulating our traveling spirit in these uncertain times.

Patreon has been a huge success, and based on your feedback, we've recently made a few changes, adding more content, Q&A, and even some cool swag!

Now as a boss you will get:

  • Monthly questions and answers live with me!
  • Trip planning is calling!
  • Calls with the team
  • Free tickets to TravelCon
  • Access to all our TNN events and virtual broadcasts
  • Autographed books
  • Postcards of me when I'm on the road
  • Private Instagram Posts
  • Exclusive personal blog posts that I don't share elsewhere (e.g. I wrote about when I tried boxing in Thailand, shared chapters from my book that weren't published, and told stories crazy hostels, to name a few!)

In addition, we have added the following new benefits:

  • Customers now have early access to certain blog posts and the ability to provide comments and suggestions before they are published on this website. This applies to "reflections" where I discuss certain ideas that I am working on. In short, you will help guide the direction of this website!
  • We are now making T-shirts so you can have a symbol of your membership (and I hope to spot more when you travel).
  • We now offer our weekly TNN webinars as reruns that you can watch whenever you have the time. We record them all and upload them to Patreon every week. This is the only place where they can be replayed!

And finally, Patreon now allows annual memberships. If you become a patron now, you will get one month free!

You can register by clicking here.

Although the information on this site remains free, Patreon allows you to be part of a larger community and have more interactions with our team and community members. It also helps ensure that this website and the community around it will be around for a long time.

I started Nomadic Matt with the simple dream of teaching people to travel. It hasn't changed. It never will be.

But being a part of our Patreon gives you exclusive perks, content, and access that will help support this community while enhancing your travels and giving you access to guest-only events.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments!

Regards,

Nomad Matt

Book your trip: logistics tips and tricks

Book your flight
Find a cheap flight using Skyscanner or Momondo. These are my two favorite search engines as they search for websites and airlines all over the world so you always know no stone is left behind.

Book your accommodation
You can book your hostel with Hostelworld. If you want to stay somewhere other than a hostel, use Booking.com as they consistently return the cheapest rates for budget guesthouses and hotels.

Don't forget travel insurance
Travel insurance protects you against illness, injury, theft and cancellations. It's full protection in the event of a problem. I never go on a trip without it because I have had to use it several times in the past. I have been using World Nomads for ten years. My favorite companies that offer the best service and the best value are:

Check out my resource page for the best companies to use when traveling. I list everyone I use when I travel. They are best in class and you can't go wrong using them on your trip.
