MoonPay launches in-store NFT claim for Alo Yoga retail chain

The brick-and-mortar retailer is giving away “daily affirmation” NFTs created on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon

Alo Yoga, an apparel and accessories retailer with dozens of locations in several U.S. states, has launched an in-store NFT claim in partnership with crypto payments company MoonPay, allowing brick-and-mortar consumers to receive free digital collectibles featuring “daily affirmations.”

The in-store experience, introduced for Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, allows customers to touch a smartphone against a terminal that reads “Tap for Mindfulness” at the checkout counter.

The terminal is equipped with a near-field communication (NFC) chip that directs customers to a website where they can claim their complimentary daily NFT.

The company says that the NFTs are based on art that focuses on the idea of “mindfulness,” and that the asset will also give people access to mental health tools. Alo will also let customers know about more ways to get NFTs through email.

Alo’s in-store initiative was developed utilizing MoonPay’s NFT minting platform, with collectibles minted on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon. In an effort to make the entire procedure non-technical and accessible to anyone, the clothing retailer is covering all minting costs associated with the promotion.

“We’re not using Web3 jargon,” Alo Yoga Global Head of Marketing Angelic Vendette said, in a release. “Instead, we are providing our community with the opportunity to explore digital ownership in familiar environments.”

The in-store NFT claim was created in collaboration with Digital Twin Studios, similar to a previous NFT release from Alo Yoga tied to digital certificates of authenticity for its Aspen Collection physical apparel drop. Alo stated in a press release that the daily affirmation NFTs could provide holders with future benefits such as token-gated access to events and exclusive sales.

“We anticipate that most users will initially engage in Web3 through the brands they know and love,” MoonPay CEO and co-founder Ivan Soto-Wright said in a statement.
