Comforting, nutritious and light on the tummy – this moong dal khichdi recipe ticks all the right boxes! Add your baby’s favorite vegetable to make it a more substantial meal.
Babies are often generalized, but the fact is that every baby is different. They develop at different rates, they react differently and of course, their tastes are also very different! And since they can’t tell you what they like or don’t like, it can be quite a challenge to feed them.
But then there are some recipes which take care of this problem in a snap, like porridge and khichdi. They’re easy to prepare, light on the tummy and filling. The best part about these dishes is that once you find out which fruits or vegetables your baby likes, you can just puree and add them to it.
So today we’re featuring a light but filling recipe that ticks all the right boxes – Moong Dal khichdi. Khichdi in general is a comforting dish, and quite versatile too. So while you’re figuring out what your baby’s favorite foods are, you can give this khichdi a go!
Moong Dal Khichdi
Ingredients:
- Moong dal – 1 tbsp
- Rice -2 tbsp
- Turmeric-1 pinch
- Jeera powder-1 pinch
- Hing-1 pinch
- Ghee – ½ tbsp.
- Garlic -1 clove crushed
Method:
1. Wash rice and moong dal thoroughly under running water and soak for 1 hour.
2. In a pressure cooker, add ghee, rice, dal, crushed garlic, turmeric, jeera powder and hing.
3. Add water and mix well.
4. Allow it to cook for 2 whistles in medium flame (depends upon your cooker)
5. Once cooled, open and mash well with potato masher and serve the baby.
This recipe is gluten-free. It can also be made vegan by replacing ghee with oil. Different versions of khichdi can be made using vegetables and greens.
