I love discovering new finds, even when they are officially not so new. Hey if it’s new to me, it may be new to you too, right?
Such is the case of Laura Numeroff’s Monster Munchies. She’s the author of the popular If You Give A Mouse A Cookie and If You Give A Pig a Pancake etc. books (faves in my home)! Monster Munchies has that same repetitive, pattern style my kids absolutely love. It’s a beginner story book, so emerging readers can verbally read several words aloud off each page. They’ll also learn a few new ones each time.
The creatures in this tale are hungry! For what? You name it! We get to know the diverse appetites of all kinds of monsters, and how their odd cravings ultimately govern their plans.
“Seven silly monsters in a car eat the wheels. They won’t get far!”
Monster Munchies is catchy and full of rhymes, as each page counts up from 1 to 20. The monsters are a potpourri of nuttiness, introducing a batch of adjectives along the way. Silly monsters, scared monsters, green monsters, hungry monsters (but of course), and the list goes on and on. The artwork makes the journey a fun ride. I like the baby monsters – surprise, surprise! $7 – $12 depending where you buy; find it at Barnes and Nobles and Amazon.com.
