Amedeo Clemente Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor who worked specifically in France. He is famous for his portraits and nudes. They were made in a modern style characterized by a surreal elongation of faces, necks and figures. Appealingly, they were not received properly during his lifetime, but later on became much sought-after. Initially,Modigliani spent his youth in Italy, where he studied ancient and Renaissance art. In 1906, he went to Paris, where he associated with artists like Pablo Picasso. Overall, by 1912, Modigliani exhibited highly stylized sculptures with Cubists of the Section d’Or team at the Salon d’Automne.
Modigliani died of tubercular meningitis in Paris, France in 1920 at the age of 35.
