The reception followed a modern style with geometric lines in indigo, copper and pink tones, incredible centerpieces with flowers and terrariums, candles and garlands. What to say about the impressive dessert table with the delicious treats that were waiting the guests! “We met five years ago in Chania, through common friends. When the summer was over and we both went back to London and our daily routines, he texted me to meet up for a coffee near my area. After that evening we became inseparable, moved in together and last April he finally proposed in Kyoto – in a super romantic setting under the cherry blossoms he asked me to be his “travel companion for life””, the bride shared with us.

“We wanted an intimate destination wedding and there was no better place from Chania. The island is quite special for us and also uniquely beautiful – well worth the travel for our friends and family. We wanted the wedding to be laid-back and informal, more like a big summer party that would last for a week. We organized a few events during and after the wedding so that all our guests, family and friends could get to explore the island, enjoy the beautiful beaches and taste the famous Cretan cuisine. Having to organize the wedding remotely and not knowing the island very well wasn’t an easy task but somehow we made it.”

“The wedding took place in a quaint little church: Metamorfosi Sotiros in Chalepa at the end of June. We chose the area as we wanted an outdoors relaxed ceremony by the sea but also because the church was really close to the venue. It was idyllic: simple, rustic and peaceful.”

“We decided not to decorate it much, just left the natural beauty to speak for itself. We had candles, scattered rose petals on the stairs and a rice stand with beautiful indigo cones made by Atelier Invitations. The candles at the church were decorated with king proteas and blue thistle similar to the wedding bouquet.”

“For my flower bouquet, I chose king protea and blue thistle tied with long silk indigo and copper ribbons. King protea is a unique tropical flower which looks straight out of a storybook, so I instantly fell in love with it when I saw it online on a styled shoot. The spiky pink petals surrounding the center, give it a regal look and from the side it looks like a crown and it also doesn’t wither easily. Blue thistle has a distinctive spiky snowflake-shaped bloom and a cobalt blue color that matched the color theme of the wedding.”

“Our favorite moment was when we entered the venue as a married couple and saw all our friends and family waiting for us, while the band was playing our favorite song. It was magical moment, laidback and filled with love!”

“We didn’t want to go overboard with decorations as the venue was beautiful by itself. We kept it simple and bought a lot of things ourselves such as the Moscow mules we offered as favors, the terrariums, the photo booth props and most of the decoration elements. It was fun spending time choosing and sourcing them online and this way we didn’t have to make compromises, we bought exactly what we had in mind.”

“The wedding favors were our two-month DIY project. It took a couple of discarded batches, a dyed floor and clothes and lots of YouTube lessons but in the end we made it. It was probably the most enjoyable part of the process. Our maid of honor helped us assemble the favors two days before the wedding, drinking wine and chatting past midnight.”

“We loved the flower decorations, the boutonnieres, the venue centerpieces and the flower girl hair wreaths. We had lots of different types of cacti and cacti flowers for the terrariums and vases, chair wreaths and a table garland made of silver dollar eucalyptus for the wedding table with lots of small candles scattered around. We loved Maria’s work, everything was created to perfection. Lighting was quite important, so we installed asymmetrical Edison light bulbs above the tables, fairy lights on the palm trees and fire torches near the stage which created a warm and dreamy atmosphere.”

“I had no idea what I wanted my wedding dress to look like. I was after something lightweight and flowy to dance the night away. I tried more dresses than I care to count and the more I tried the more confused I was. Until I visited the Anna Anemomylou – Anem and then I knew I had found it. Our collaboration with Anna was seamless – she is such a professional, creative and charismatic person. She made my dress out of the finest fabrics and with such great attention to detail, that it felt and looked gorgeous.”

“My advices to a bride-to-be: enjoy the journey of planning your wedding with your other half. From choosing the concept, to making the wedding favors and sourcing all the decorations, every minute filled us with so much joy. Don’t let anything spoil your big day, you have been planning it for a while now it’s finally time to sit back and enjoy and soak up every minute of the day. Ignore all the trivial little things that are out of your control and that nobody will care about. Trust me it will go in a jiffy! Choose a good photographer/videographer to capture your special moments. After the day is gone all you are left with are these precious pictures and video memorabilia that will stay with you forever. We were lucky enough to work with the Ak3fotografia team, two wonderful guys, grounded, passionate about what they do, creative and super friendly!”
