Wednesday guitarist MJ Lenderman has shared new single ‘Joker Lips’ ahead of the release of new album ‘Manning Fireworks’ via ANTI- on 6 September.
A song about feeling pushed out by everyone else, there’s a slacker undercurrent running behind the alt-folk yet shoegazey sound as he pleads with people to ‘Please don’t ask how I’m doing’ and laments ‘draining cum from hotel showers’ while hoping for ‘the hours past a little faster’.
He goes on to ask ‘Please don’t laugh, only half of what I said was a joke’ before talking about a morning trying to kill him and how ‘You know I love my TV but all I really wanna see is to see you near me’. There’s a touch of Ben Kweller in his delivery of these oh-so-poignant yet relatable lines.
