The Bureau of Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said that a minor earth tremor with a magnitude 2.5 on Richter scale were reported from Kataragama and surrounding areas on Monday night. Accordingly, the tremor was felt in many areas including Kataragama, Sellakataragama, Detagamuwa, Pannigamuwa, Lunugamwehera. Earlier also on several occasions minor tremors were reported from nearby areas including Hambantota, Ambalantota, Wellawaya and Buttala. The GSMB said that it was a minor tremorand there was no cause for alarm.
