MILO Honors Outstanding Young Athletes at PSA-MILO Awards Night!
Manila, Philippines, 18 March 2013 – MILO presented the first ever MILO Junior Athletes of the Year Award to two of the most outstanding young athletes for 2012, swimming marvels Axel Toni Ngui and Kirsten Chloe Daos, at the recently concluded 2013 MILO-Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards Night. The award recognized the two athletes’ ability to inspire excellence among the youth through exceptional athleticism in their sport and the values of leadership, discipline, perseverance and integrity in life.
Ngui is a college freshman at the Ateneo de Manila University, and is already considered to be the poster boy of the university’s swimming varsity team. “I want to balance sports and academics, and excel in both. I owe my discipline and determination to succeed to my strict training and studying routine, which I follow religiously. It feels good to be recognized, not just for my performance in the pool, but for how I am outside of sports,” he said. Ngui has won many achievements in his career, including the 2012 Palarong Pambansa Most Valuable Player and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 75 Rookie of the Year for swimming.
Thirteen year-old Daos was a standout at the 2012 Palarong Pambansa, where she became one of the two first triple-gold medalists in the National Finals swimming competition. “It is both an honor and a privilege to receive this award. What drives me to compete is that I can inspire others to excel in everything they do through my victories. It is very fulfilling to know that my efforts have paid off, and that I’ve made my parents and supporters proud of what I have accomplished,” she said. Daos will be competing in the next Palarong Pambansa and the 37th Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in June.
According to Andrew Neri, MILO Sports Executive, MILO is fully committed to the holistic development of the youth. “Through the MILO Junior Athletes of the Year Award, MILO and PSA jointly acknowledge the efforts our young athletes make as a way to motivate them to achieve greatness in both national and international leagues as the next generation of Filipino champions. We are privileged to be able to honor Axel and Kirsten, who are both a shining example of the sportsmanship and values our young athletes should possess,” he said.
