We were shown to our table by Sam, who gave us excellent service all evening and was on hand to answer any questions we had. Obviously we were going to have steak, but which one?! As you can see above, the menu was quite extensive but after advice from Sam, we selected the Chateaubriand 16oz to share. Just wait until you see it!
Our starters arrived quickly and were both delicious. My boyfriend opted for the Bourbon Glazed Pork Belly Bites and I went with Chargrilled Chicken Wings. We both agreed it was just the right amount before our main. Then the Chateaubriand arrived, just get a look at that! It was definitely the star of the night, if not the entire menu! We both opted for wedge dressings which arrived a couple of minutes prior to the steak. I can't believe how photogenic my lettuce wedge with bacon and honey mustard is! It tasted great too - which is the main thing.Since my boyfriend is more of a steak person than me, he made the overall decision that we go medium rare. In hindsight perhaps we should have opted for medium since it was a bit pink for my liking, but that may well be down to the fact I've never had medium rare (or indeed any steak that's actually still pink tinged) Cut from the beef tenderloin, the Chateaubriand was tender, juicy and full of flavor. We opted for peppercorn and beef dripping sauces which really complemented the steak and the onion loaf (think onion rings but without the ring shape) worked really well too.You can only slightly see the chips in the above photo; we had one pot each and I struggled to finish them all and the steak. Just the right amount of seasoning and they were fluffy inside, exactly how chips should be.Of course we had to go all out and have desserts too! I opted for the Lemon Meringue Roulade which was a melt-in-my-mouth sensation and Andrew had Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream (I quickly got a taste before he devoured it all and it was really good) I washed everything down with a Velvet Elvis cocktail; Jack Daniels with Chambord Raspberry Liqueur built and topped with lemonade, while my boyfriend had a non-alcoholic Crabbie's Ginger Beer as designated driver.I was invited upstairs to see the restaurant from a different angle and found this great piece of wall art. The upstairs is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (plus Sundays if required) and it's fantastic. You still get the noise and atmosphere of the busy restaurant but more privacy, so for a special meal it'd be the perfect place. If you're looking for somewhere different, you're celebrating somewhere special, or you just love steak, I'd highly recommend Miller and Carter. With steaks around £20, it's very competitively priced and my boyfriend believes our Chateaubriand is the best steak he's ever had! Miller and Carter Newcastle gave us incredible service and the whole experience in the restaurant was great. We were there for over two hours, enjoying the food and the atmosphere, it's actually the longest we've ever spent in a restaurant and that's not due to my multiple food photos at different angles either!
A huge thank you to Miller and Carter for an incredible evening and an incredible meal*.
