If you’re like me, a huge fan of talent reality shows like Project Runway, you might be familiar with Mila Hermanovski. For those less obsessed, Mila is a native Dallas fashion designer who was second runner up on season seven of Project Runway, and also competed in Lifetime’s spinoff, Project Runway All Stars.
I always find it interesting to learn what inspired a person’s entrepreneurship and success. Mila’s inspiration for her ’14 fall collection, Excavate, is driven by art, design, and architecture. Here’s a little blurb from Mila about the Excavate collection: “The inspiration came literally from the massive construction project happening outside my studio window. I watched the process daily throughout its evolution, from the demolition of the original deco period wood and brick building, to digging a gigantic hole, to laying rebar in a grid like pattern, to pouring seemingly endless amounts of concrete. The series of work being done was at times both disturbing and fascinating. The collection became a mix of textiles and shapes, architecturally-drawn influences, and incorporating textured with sleek.”
Check out the slide show above which features some of my favorite pieces from the timeless contemporary collection, Excavate.
