Mil Mi-24 Hind D

@ Nellis AFB, NV

March 2010

Located at Nellis AFB is the U.S. Air Force’s Threat Training Facility, operated by the 547th Intelligence Squadron. This formerly classified facility has the nickname, “Petting Zoo.” Among the training assets is this Hind gunship used for adversary tactics analysis. This former Libyan Mi-24 Hind gunship was seized from Libya’s neighbor, Chad. With a redesigned forward fuselage, with separate cockpits for the pilot and gunner, the Mi-24D was designed to be a more pure gunship than the earlier variants.  First flown in 1969, more than 2,600 Hinds were produced and are still in frontline service in over 50 countries.
