Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN Flogger

@ Speyer, Germany

December 2022

I was thrilled for a return visit to the excellent Speyer Technik Museum. Spotted this MiG-23 displayed outside amongst other exhibits. This MiG-23BN belonged to the GDR (East German) Air Force but is seen here wearing the Czech Air Force livery of 28.SBoLP (28. Stihaci – Bombardovaci Letecky Pluk or 28 Fighter Bomber Air Regiment) at Caslav AB. To mark the 35th anniversary of 28.SBoLP, unit aircraft wore this black eagle scheme. First flown in 1967, production began in 1969 with over 5,000 built, making it the most produced variable-sweep wing aircraft in history. The BN was an upgraded variant produced from 1973-1985.
