Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN Flogger

@ Speyer, Germany

December 2022

I was thrilled for a return visit to the excellent Speyer Technik Museum. Spotted this pole-mounted MiG-23 displayed outside amongst other exhibits. This MiG-23BN belonged to the GDR (East German) Air Force and was painted in a special Federal Air Force scheme when the GDR and BRD (West German) Air Forces merged in 1990, the first time Soviet-built aircraft had served in a NATO air force. First flown in 1967, production began in 1969 with over 5,000 built, making it the most produced variable-sweep wing aircraft in history. The BN was an upgraded variant produced from 1973-1985.
