Most of you might know by now that every now and then, I like to step out of my comfort zone a little and try something different. Sometimes that works out really well (shiny pants are here to stay now and I never regretted these harems either), sometimes it just makes me realize that not everything can be translated into my own style (sorry, don’t think I’ll ever be wearing pink coats again). I don’t mind both outcomes though, it’s ok to make a fashion faux pas every once in a while. I think a personal style develops constantly and clothing that fit into your style are always added and removed when you change, collections change, the industry changes. Also: if you never try, you never know. I was convinced that midi skirts were not for me. At all. It’s probably the most feminine skirt out there and you know I have some femininity issues every now and then, I just prefer to look like a little boy most of the time. But last week I took on the challenge with myself and ordered a midi skirt. I was actually surprised by the many good varieties that are out there at the moment (like here). I decided to not take it too far though and ordered a simple black one. Once it came in, the next step was (as it is with anything feminine, heavy printed or ‘a little much’) how to dress it down. Which is my favorite thing to do, dressing down. Yesterday, it all came together. The sun was shining, I was in a sportswear mode and went bare legged (wasn’t even cold!) in black and white. I think the midi skirt is a mission accomplished, embraced into my wardrobe.
Now I’d totally understand if you’d rather go outside and enjoy the lovely weather of today, but if not, tell me: do you go outside your comfort zone often? What’s your biggest fashion faux pas?
