In February, CNBC reported that Microsoft was planning to bring the default Windows 10 antivirus system to Android users. The Microsoft Defender Android app is now available on the Google Play Store as a software preview.
In the description of the Android app, Microsoft says that the app isn't free to start with. And it's only available to corporate users with a Microsoft 365 E5 license.
Microsoft Defender ATP primarily targets corporate users with Android devices; hence, it has a few enterprise-oriented protection features. Security administrators, for example, can create custom flags for web protection. The app can also block users who violate the organization's threat protection policies.
Apart from that, it can warn about suspicious app installations and block malicious web pages opened through WhatsApp, web browser, email etc.
Selective availability puts the Android app at a disadvantage compared to the best antivirus apps on the platform. However, we can't complain as this is only a preview of the software, and Microsoft may have plans for non-professional users.
The previous one CNBC The report also suggested that Microsoft Defender would arrive on Linux and iOS. Of course, it would be interesting to see its capabilities on Linux, but Microsoft Defender on iOS doesn't seem like a good idea.
