Microsoft Cortana Quietly Snuck onto Cyanogen This Week

Microsoft Cortana which was considered a huge hit when compared with its competitors from Apple and Google has now started its spread across other platforms too. The move was small and only owners of the One plus One smartphone who have updated to Cyanogen OS 12.1 have noticed the development.

Microsoft has been opening up its platforms and services to other ecosystems and Cortana is the latest to be partnered with a competitive offering. The company has teamed up with the developers behind Cyanogen OS to have the personal assistant bundled with powered hardware, and has been spotted in the Cyanogen OS 12.1.

Cortana was earlier launched on Android and iOS, but the Cyanogen integration goes even deeper, allowing users to make use of the “Hey Cortana” voice command (similar to Siri in iOS) just about anywhere on the device. The update also allows the usage of voice command even to change some phone settings, like enabling silencing or changing network modes;a function that Cortana could not perform outside of Windows Phone earlier.

By integrating Microsoft Cortana into the core of Cyanogen, the company said it is “opening the door to future capabilities that don’t currently exist.” As more opportunities are explored for Cortana in a Cyanogens platform, no announcement has been made on similar Cortana integration for other devices (Android and iOS).
