“This propaganda video attributed to a criminal gang is being analyzed to confirm its authenticity and the time when it was filmed,” Secretary of State Alfonso Durazo wrote on his Twitter account on Friday.
This document is of particular interest to the Mexican authorities because the coat of arms of the New Generation Jalisco Cartel (CJNG), accused of being behind a spectacular attack on 26 June against Mexico's security secretary, Omar Garcia Harfuch, in a residential area of the capital, can be seen on the filmed vehicles.
M. Garcia Harfuch himself, who survived this unprecedented attack on a politician in Mexico, then pointed to this reputed cartel among the most powerful and bloodthirsty in the country. Three civilians were killed in the exchange of fire.
The video, lasting approximately 2 minutes 20, broadcast on social networks, shows with a long traveling camera a group of paramilitaries in combat gear, bulletproof vests, helmets, goggles and hoods concealing their faces.
Particularly impressive, these men who seem in perfect physical condition and very disciplined, are shown chanting “Pura gente del Señor Mencho” (Editor's note: The men of Mr. Mencho) in reference to the nickname given to Nemesio Oseguera, head of the CJNG.
“El Mencho” is also one of the most wanted criminals in the United States, with a reward of ten million dollars.
Equipped with assault rifles and grenade launchers, the paramilitaries are filmed posing next to American-made armored trucks and 4x4s, which carry on their door an escutcheon on which one can read: “Special forces, CJNG, Elite Group ”.
On the vests of the soldiers of this private army are also printed the initials “CJNG” colored with the green, the white and the red of the Mexican flag.
Secretary Durazo added that, whatever the result of the video analysis, “there is no criminal group capable of successfully challenging the federal security forces”.
The broadcast of this video coincides with the alleged birthday of Nemesio Oseguera, 54 years old this Friday.
