Menswear Spring 2014: Thom Browne

Toy soldiers march across the runway in Thom Browne’s Spring 2014 menswear collection. The collection is military-inspired, but forget about the typical army green and camouflage-printed pieces. It contains a lot of military-styled jackets in patriotic colors, but not many patterns. Each look is styled with a captain’s hat, a pair of aviator sunglasses, white gloves, frilly socks, and red lipstick. The red lipstick gives each male model a “toy soldier” appearance.What really keeps the collection unified is the white-on-bottom approach. Each jacket or coat is paired with some sort of white pants. It gives the look a really crisp and clean edge. Although the collection as a whole is clever and unique, I feel it isn’t exactly practical for a college student, or for anyone on the street for that matter.
