Men Of War II Upcoming Patch

Improved Matchmaking System

To address the problems players have been mentioning, we have just changed the servers used for multiplayer matchmaking. There is no need to download anything because this is not an update for the game’s client. The matching process will now be far more equitable in terms of who gets matched with whom and the MMR (ranking score) that is given to each player.

Pitting high-ranking against low-ranking players

This was the outcome of the “matchmaker” placing too little emphasis on keeping participants within the same MMR (ranking score) range in order to start a game as quickly as feasible. The servers will now prioritize locating players within a close MMR range after reprogramming this system. More uneven games will only be permitted if a match cannot be formed in a specific amount of time.

Uneven teams matched against one another

From now on, teams will only be matched against other teams of the same size (+/- 1 person). This means that a team of two players can only play against another team of two or three players; a team of three players can play against two, three, or four players; a team of four players can play against three, four, or five players; and a team of five players can play against either a four- or a five-player team.

Issues with MMR Calculation

In certain extreme circumstances, a player would receive 0 MMR even for a well-deserved victory in a lengthy game. The system was designed to reward MMR based on earned XP, which confused some players and encouraged others to focus on earning XP instead of winning. Additionally, there were variations in the MMR accumulation between solo and team play, and generally speaking, one team may earn or lose more MMR than the other.

For these reasons, we have changed the MMR algorithm so that XP will now be less important and more weight will be given to the player’s and their opponent’s MMR. We have also increased the XP awarded for territory control by +25% (we also plan to add XP to the scout and spotter for damage to vehicles highlighted by them, as well as to medics for successful evacuation of wounded infantry).

The ELO algorithm (a Wikipedia article for interested parties) is used to determine each player’s change in MMR with each of their opponents:
The difference in XP is used to modify the final MMR change:

  • MMR change correction is equal to my XP / (my XP + enemy XP).
  • For both win and defeat, the adjustment will be 0.5 if XP is equal to the enemy’s XP.
  • 0.2 for victory and 0.8 for defeat will be the correction if the enemy’s XP is four times higher.
  • Your XP will be corrected to 0.8 for win and 0.2 for failure if it is four times higher.

The average of all fresh MMRs during a fictitious battle with each opponent separately determines the player’s final MMR.
You will still receive +1 for a victory and -1 for a defeat even if the difference in MMR is 0.
Because of this, the computation is balanced, which means that the winning team should receive an equal number of points as the losing team did.

Further modifications to the MMR computation:

  • MMR change step starts at 40 and changes to 20 after 30 matches. At 2400+, the MMR step becomes 10.
  • The 1000–1400 boost range is no longer in use.
  • The new minimum MMR is 1000.
  • Playing on a team or by yourself has no longer any bearing on how MMR is calculated.

Additional Steam Achievements

There will be a substantial addition of fresh and different Achievements. These will be given out not only for finishing campaigns and missions but also for accomplishing milestones like killing a B4 Goliath, using specific units to deal a certain level of total damage, and finishing optional mission tasks. There will be over ten times as many achievements overall when compared to what is currently available.

FPS Limit Unlock

An FPS limit can be added or removed in the Settings.

Various Stability and Balancing Improvements

Numerous annoying crashes have been resolved, and we’ve adjusted the balancing between the Competitive and Realistic Settings.

Map Updates

A number of maps will receive various functional and visual updates as part of a continuous process. Here’s a fresh screenshot from the most recent iteration of the Dead River Map as a tiny example. Can you guess what’s new?
