Memoir Of A Snail- From The Director Of Mary and Max
Quick Take: Sadly, this stop motion awards contender doesn’t have audio description. I was not provided any, and the theatrical release was missing it as well. So, while the story of a woman whose life is full of these really heavy moments, and who has an affinity for snails, is not something I’d recommend to a blind and visually impaired audience. it is a shame, because the director’s previous work, Mary and Max, is very well regarded. There are moments here in this R-rated animation that are profound in nature, but the disconnect of not being able to fully understand either the visual aspects of the moment, or even the style the movie was made in, make this an unfortunate film I can’t recommend to my largely blind and low vision audience. To the sighted people, I think this is a dark story, but too often we are afraid of where to take animation in terms of adults, that offerings are few and far between. You might just find something here to relate to, or it might be too heavy. Either way, accessibility would be nice. For more, check out the video.
