Ella Fontanals-Cisneros, a significant collector whose works include everything from Latin American art to conceptual art to video art, is getting into the NFT game. Utilizing 3D scans, pieces from her collection of more than 2,000 pieces will be turned into an NFT tarot card deck, which is why it is called NFTarot.
On October 6, a 44-card NFTarot deck’s first 14 cards will be available for purchase on the Web3 art portal LiveArt. Gustavo Perez Monzon, a Cuban artist known for his geometrical drawings and wire-and-thread installations, is credited with introducing conceptual art to his home nation. His artwork is featured on half of the cards. The seven additional cards showcase the works of Cuban video artist Glenda León.
A percentage of the revenues from the NFT sales will go to the original artists, while the majority will be utilized to support her eponymous foundation, CIFO, and its grant and commissioning programs for artists.
The sale will mark the launch of eDigital.ART, a new project from Cisneros.In a release, eDigital.ART is described as a “new NFT initiative [that] connects collectors to works by artists represented in the renowned Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection.”
“The collaboration with eDigital.ART builds on my lifelong mission to advocate for Latin American artists and raise global awareness for their practices,” said Fontanals-Cisneros . “Not only can we expand the range of collectors for these artists through the NFT format, but we can also bolster the impact of the critical support that CIFO provides to Latin American artists around the world and directly support artists through the ongoing royalties enabled by NFTs.”
It is a creative approach for Fontanals-Cisneros to gain value from her collection without really having to part with her beloved possessions, which also include pieces by Lygia Clark, Luis Camnitzer, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Olafur Eliasson, John Baldessari, and Vik Muniz.A change in administration led to the cancellation of the deal she had made to donate 400 pieces from her collection to Spain in 2018. Fontanals-Cisneros and Ars Electronica collaborated to establish a new award program earlier this year to aid Latin American artists who use technology.
