CIPE and Atlas Corps welcomed the latest class of Think Tank LINKS Fellows at the end of January. This year’s class comes from a wide range of backgrounds – from South Asia, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa – to Washington, DC for six months to partake in a leadership development program. All of the fellows will serve at renowned think tanks in Washington, DC, and shadow researchers and experts to learn best practices of successful think tanks in the U.S.

Huma Sattar from the Pakistan Business Council is hosted at the Heritage Foundation. At the Heritage Foundation, she will undertake an independent research project focused on economic freedom and development in the South and South East Asian region, closely studying rule of law, governance, regulation, and open markets.
Huma specializes in regional trade, trade policy, and public sector development. Her work broadly aims to assess the development or lack thereof in Pakistan’s trade infrastructure in light of the changing political landscape, economic restrictiveness, bilateral and multilateral trade cooperation agreements and policy reforms. Her research identifies key focus areas at industry and government levels for Pakistan to create pathways for a sustainable growth in the mid and long term. Huma holds a Bachelors’ degree in Mathematics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) minoring in Economics and Philosophy.
Hiba Safi from the Arab Institute of Business Leaders (IACE) (Tunisia) is hosted at the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy. At the Tahrir Institute, she will conduct research on democracy and economic development in Tunisia.
Hiba is a community leader and member of the Global Shapers Community—part of the World Economic Forum. She is devoted to promoting the growth and viability of Tunisia’s private sector, and giving it a voice in the country’s evolving political landscape. At the IACE, Hiba contributed to the management of IACE initiatives in the four core program areas of Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Economic policy reforms and Civic engagement across Tunisia. She also contributed to the organization of The Enterprise Days which gathers international policy makers, stakeholders, business leaders and experts from North Africa and the world.
Bahaa Eddin Al Dahoudi from the Pal-think for Strategic Studies (Palestinian Territories) is serving at the Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED). Bahaa will serve on POMED’s Civil Society Partnerships Program to develop training and mentoring materials, as well as provide operational guidance for the growing partner organizations.
Bahaa is very passionate about international politics and human rights, and he has been part of many projects that promoted youth capacity building, global leadership, peace, and tolerance among people, societies, and nations. As a Researcher and Project Coordinator at Pal-Think for Strategic Studies, his research focuses on promoting peace, freedom, and democracy through organizing debates on public issues, and producing policy recommendations to the decision makers in Palestine and Middle East.
Bahaa has two years of experience in the nonprofit sector and completed his Master’s Degree in Political Science and American Studies at the Heidelberg Center of American Studies, Germany. He received his bachelor’s degrees from Westminster College in the United States where he double majored in Business Administration and International Relations & Diplomacy.
Lawrence Yealue from the Business Start-Up Center Monrovia (Liberia) is serving at the Accountability Lab. At Accountability Lab, he will conduct research, develop project ideas, build relevant networks, and conduct outreach for activities in West Africa.
At the Business Start-Up Center Monrovia, Lawrence is the Assistant Project Coordinator of the Business Start-Up Center Monrovia (BSC). Previously, he served as Electoral Commissioner for the Liberian Student Association-Ghana, National Coordinator for the World Youth Spirit Council, and a volunteer for Africa Peace’s HIV/AIDS Education & Peace Initiative in Benin. He also founded and directed Liberian Youth for Peace & Development (LIRYPAD), and worked as a teacher, dean, and HR personnel for community schools in Ghana. Lawrence received a BA in Human Resource Management from Wisconsin International University College in Ghana.
