Meet the Newest Member of the Team

By Hollie Brooks @MiaFleur_home

Hello all

Happy Friday!  This week we’re very excited to announce that we’ve employed our first member of staff **clinks champers and jumps for joy**!  Lara is going to be helping us with the admin side of the business, as well as hopefully doing a bit of blogging and well, who knows what else she might get roped into.   It’s been a long time coming for us to get to this point and I guess it’s a pretty big milestone really, so we’ll definitely have a drink or two to celebrate.  I mean sure, we’ll probably have a drink or two this weekend anyway, but we’ll certainly have one or two (extra) in Lara’s honor.

We asked Lara to introduce herself and in the same way that we shared ‘5 things you didn’t know about us’, asked her to share 5 things about herself.  So, take it away Lara….

Meet Lara, the newest memeber of the MiaFleur team.

Hi!, I’m Lara Isabell, Jacqui’s niece, Hollie and Amelia’s cousin and the newest addition to MiaFleur. I’m delighted to be working for MiaFleur whilst on my gap year, before heading to Nottingham University to study philosophy. Until then, I get to spend everyday around all the lovely products! Here’s five things about me…

  1. I’m a vegan. I’ve been vegetarian for the majority of my life, but took the final plunge just over 18months ago to cut out all animal products. It sits perfectly with my ethical stance, but I do have one difficult job finding food when out and about!
  2. I’m completely surrounded by ornaments, interior pieces and plates! Not only is Jacqui’s house a wonderland of treasures, my mom is a collector and lover of art deco pieces. Our kitchen is full to the brim with plates, vases and tea cups, varying from green glass to 1930s styles. Don’t get me wrong, it’s all gorgeous, but similarly to the amount of stationary we have, there’s a hell of a lot of it! Although it doesn’t help that I’ve worked in a charity shop for the past 3 years, I tend to contribute by bringing treats home!
  3. I’m a bit of a hoarder. I can get emotionally attached to items of clothing, cards, you name it I keep it! I’ve recently redecorated my room, and it took 2 weeks just to clear out every draw, cupboard and box! Thankfully it’s far more relaxed now, all the hoarding has pushed me to a more minimalist state. I still get a little carried away but it gets pointed out in time! Although I would suggest growing up around the MiaFleur ladies and my mum, it originates from somewhere…
  4. I’m a comic book nerd. My dad is too, and I used to visit the library each week as a child to collect a new set to read. As my parents have joked, my mind is like an encyclopedia of characters and their storylines. Probably not useful when I needed to remember Pythagoras theorem or the cell cycle at GCSE, but it mattered far more to me than equations!
  5. I have a massive list of careers and projects I want to try after university, unlike many of my peers who are aiming at one career. Must be nice to know exactly what you want to be, a lawyer or dentist, but my ‘to do’ list frequently changes! Instead I’m aiming to do the majority of it, have my poetry published, complete my novel, try teaching, travel Europe, study Buddhism, own an animal rescue centre, make a patchwork quilt, convince the world that vegan is the way… The list goes on!

P.S. I forgot perhaps the most obvious thing! I’ve dyed my hair 16 times, from red to purple to green and magenta dip dye, every color in the rainbow and beyond! Currently I have a blonde streak (although that may change soon to aquamarine blue, if I can convince my parents!)

Thank you so much to Lara for sharing that with us… next week I’ll be sharing a bit of a personal post, so keep your eyes peeled for that.  In the meantime, have an amazing weekend.

P.s.  If you haven’t been over to the shop recently, I definitely suggest you.  We’re launching our biggest EVER collection over the next few weeks and some of it is already online.  If I do say so myself… it’s MEGA.

Hollie x
