Meet Haven

By Mollyalice @mollyalicehoy

There’s a new addition to the nest!

… and, mercifully, it’s not a baby. Not a human one, at any rate.

Say hello to Haven! After much discussion, Andy and I adopted her last week from a local rescue organization. She’s a Russian Blue mix, which means she is not only a sweetheart, but she’s also (somewhat) hypoallergenic! Good news for an allergy sufferer like myself.

Although technically still a kitten at 6 months old, Haven is very cuddly and affectionate, even if she can only tolerate a minute or two of snuggling before moving on to something more interesting. Like chasing roaches.

If we could just get her to eat them, then we might be in business.

Mel, on the other hand, is not exactly thrilled to have another furry roommate — she didn’t remotely get along with the last one — but so far, no physical altercations have taken place. Perhaps this is on account of Mel’s rapidly acquired new taste for  cat food.

I also feel compelled to point out that one of the first things we did was get rid of that obnoxious pink collar — if there’s one thing I can’t abide, it’s forcing gender roles on animals!

Even though we’ve only had her for a week, she already seems to have adjusted almost completely to life here with us, and I’m looking forward to her becoming fully integrated into our family over the coming weeks and months!
