CALSTAR is the largest nonprofit air ambulance provider on the West Coast with ten helicopter EMS bases located throughout Northern and Central California.  This photo shows one of their old MD 900 helicopters landing at the Watsonville Fly-In airshow.  First flown in 1992, the Explorer was the first McDonnell Douglas helicopter to incorporate the NOTAR (no tail rotor) system from its initial design.  The benefits of the NOTAR anti-torque system include increased safety, lower noise levels and performance and controllability enhancements.
