McDonnell Douglas QF-4E Phantom II

@ Nellis AFB, NV

November 2007

Plenty of time on my hands to work on a backlog of images, uncovering some like this Phantom landing after a flight performance during the 2007 Aviation Nation airshow. The 82d Aerial Targets Squadron was the last USAF unit to fly the Phantom II, using them as aerial targets.  A secondary mission was the use of man-rated QF-4s, like this example, in support of the USAF Heritage Flight program at military air shows and other specific commemorative events.  Designed by McDonnell Aircraft and first flown in 1958, the classic F-4 Phantom II served with all three US services and air forces around the world. December 21, 2016 would mark the phinal retirement of the Phantom from US service.  Nikon D70s w/70-300mm.
