Earth, Sky and Aluminum.  This MD-80 prepares to turn onto the active runway at Colorado Springs.  The iconic polished aluminum skin on American Airlines’ jets, dating from the 1960’s, will soon be a distant memory.  American Airlines expects all airplanes to have new AA livery by end of 2017, four years after their merger with US Airways. This airframe might not be see the new livery since the type is scheduled for retirement in 2019.  American operates 37 of these MD-83’s in their fleet.
