An image from my first (& only) visit to the Wings Over Pittsburgh airshow showing the two exhaust nozzles of the General Electric F404 engines. These robust engine are resistant to stall and flameout.  NASA operates four F/A-18’s for research support and pilot proficiency.  First flown in 1978, the F/A-18 is still in service with close to 1800 built.  The two-seater F/A-18D is primarily operated by the U.S. Marine Corps in the night attack and Forward Air Controller roles. The US Navy’s Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron have been flying the F/A-18 Hornet since 1986.  Nikon D300 w/80-200mm.
