McDonnell Douglas F-15A Eagle

@ New Orleans, LA

September 2024

While on travel to New Orleans, I found time to visit the Jackson Barracks Museum and their collection of aircraft. This F-15A Eagle was originally issued to the 159th Fighter Group in April 1985, the first Air National Guard unit to fly the F-15 Eagle. This aircraft (73-0086) happens to be the second Eagle to be put into service in the USAF. The F-15 was notable in many ways, one being the first aircraft to have a thrust-to-weight ratio greater than one, allowing for vertical acceleration while climbing. The A-model Eagle was in service from 1972-1995, with 384 built from 1972–1979.
