Story: Maybe I Do starts with three couples, first Howard (Gere) and Monica (Sarandon) meeting for an affair in a fancy hotel. Elsewhere, lonely Sam (Macy) meets Grace (Keaton) at a cinema screening and the two question whether to have an affair or not. Meanwhile, Michelle (Roberts) is preparing to catch the bouquet at her best friend’s wedding, only for her partner Allen (Bracey) to take that from her.

When Michelle decides to invite Allen’s parents to meet hers. It puts them all in a difficult situation as they must try to keep their secrets to give their children a future together.

Verdict on Maybe I Do

Maybe I Do is a romantic comedy following a young couple that let their partners meet, only to learn a disturbing truth about them. As they learn their parents have been, or tempted into affairs with each other without knowing.

This gets to show how difficult love can become for everyone. It shows us how a younger generation can doubt love and an older generation always searches for it. The way this unfolds puts more focus on the parents and their decisions and problems, not letting the younger couple with the biggest decision address the news.

It gets to use the awkward meeting comedy well but not to the full extent. We do get an all-star cast that all get to shine in their roles through the movie. The movie does get to touch on the more serious side of life and the need to want to feel loved. However, it doesn’t seem to reach the heights it could easily have.
