Heavenly Records signing Mattiel has shared ‘Food for Thought’ ahead of an appearance on the Park stage at Glastonbury Festival this year and an extensive UK and European tour.
One of the highlights from last year’s ‘Satis Factory’ album, the brassy, short song opens with a catchy bass and off-kilter pop melodies as Mattiel Brown starts delivering defiant lines in spoken-word fashion: ‘We set the table and the silverware and all you’ve got is a hundred-yard stare. So look back at me and finish your food with an appetite and some gratitude’. A rally against conforming, the track finds Mattiel showing how important it is to stay independent, take control of your life and avoid being brainwashed:’Give me all your children and I’ll show them how to congregate. All we need our lives to feed so pass around the dinner plate’; ‘What’s food for thought when all you’ve got is something to regurgitate’.
