By now it shouldn’t be a secret that Matt Kivel released one of my favorite debut albums of last year in Double Exposure. The record was an inspired collection of understated songs that I keep returning to. Kivel is already getting ready for his sophomore album Days of Being Wild to be released via Woodsist on July 8th, which seems appropriate considering the labels reputation of putting out great acts caught somewhere between folk and rock. “Insignificance” is the albums lovely first tease. Kivel plugged in the electricity on this one, and the result is a little bit more ‘riffy’ and direct in terms of melody, but his voice – witch I believe remains the foremost appeal with Kivel – sounds every bit as tender and modest as it did on Double Exposure.
