It’s been a while coming but Matt Emery has finally revealed details of his debut album, ‘Empire’, which is due out on 15 September. He’s also unveiled the title track, that you can hear in the Soundcloud stream below.
Poignant and powerful, ‘Empire’ opens with simply gorgeous piano notes before contemporary-sounding glitches and effects are gently (and expertly) added to the mix. Soon, there are moments of grand cello and strings giving it even more potency as the piece develops into something more cinematic and truly evocative. Recorded by James Kenosha and mastered by Taylor Deupree of 12k, ‘Empire’ is a piece of modern/post-classical music that combines the imperious composition style of the likes of Max Richter with the more melodic nature of Amiina or yndi halda.
