Matt Damon is a busy actor. So much so that he had to make a pact with his wife vowing to take time off. “The one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called,” he said, explaining how he involved Nolan in his negotiations with his wife Luciana Barroso. Thanks to Nolan’s secretive nature, Damon had no idea if the former was working on something new let alone assuming that he’d get a call. He added the condition just in case while making a promise to his wife during therapy. As life would have it, he did get the call from Chris Nolan and got picked to play the Lieutenant General Leslie Groves Jr. in the upcoming movie Oppenheimer.
Damon said, “This is going to sound made up, but it’s actually true. I had, not to get too personal, negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off.” Reflecting on his previous collaborations with Nolan, such as Interstellar, Damon shared that he had been “put on ice” for a few movies, and this led him to negotiate the exception in couples therapy.

Damon credits wife, Luciana Barroso, for helping him become a true professional and steer through difficult periods. He said, “And what being a professional actor means is you go and you do the 15-hour day and give it absolutely everything, even in what you know is going to be a losing effort.” Barroso helped Matt realize this and pull himself up.
Damon and Barroso’s love story stretches back to 2003 when they first met. The couple who have been married for 18 years now, just celebrated the 20th anniversary of their first meeting.
The world premiere of Oppenheimer took place sometime ago. While the movie is yet to be released for the public, it is safe to say that we are in for a massive treat. The reviews have been almost unanimously good, good being an understatement here.
