Winning two titles in one tournament gave a real boost to me said the promising squash player Matheesha Wijesekera who won the boys under 15 and under 17 titles at the recently concluded Edinborough Open Squash Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation.

The 14 year Royalist Matheesha is in great from and his approach and dedication is very high to continue this sport .The current under 15 number one ranked and under 17 Ranked number two player continues his form to win more titles at the domestic level and his ambition is to reach the National level as well as International level . Playing in domestic tournaments helps to reach International level said this young squash player and he already has got a chance to take part in International tournaments to get more exposure.

Matheesha won the under 15 title at the 32nd Junior National squash championship at the SSC courts while also ending up in fifth place in the under 17 category at the same tournament .in addition he also won the most promising player award at the Junior Nationals .

At the SLS open squash championship once again Matheesha won under 15 title and third place of the under 17 age group. Last year he also emerged under 15 champion at the SLS junior open squash championship held at SSC courts. Now he has won both under 15 and under 17 doubles titles and it was a real achievement and all credit should go to his present coach Shamil Wakeel who himself is a player cum coach who has performed well in this sport. R.S Deen and his former coach Lal Wickramasinghe also gave fine support to this young player to build up his career while physical fitness is done by his trainer Thushara Wasantha .

Matheesha represented Sri Lanka at the Junior Asian Squash Championship held in Macau ,China in 2019 and at the 13 th Kuala Lumpur Junior Open Squash Championship held in ,Malaysia in the same year and he is expected to take part at the Qatar Junior Open Squash Championship which is scheduled to be held from June 15 to 19 in Doha Qatar.

He used to get regular practices to get ready for the domestic tournaments while doing his studies to balance everything to obtain success and his parents always encourage him to continue this sport.

He is expected to win more tournaments at domestic level and very keen to win the senior National title and his ambition is to reach International level to bring more honor to the country from this racquet sport.
