Maruti is in the Doldrums to Beat the Mahindra Thar, Sales Haven’t Even Crossed Two Shows.

The lifestyle SUV market in India has been going strong lately. Many people continue to show deep love for such cars instead of hatchback models. Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Mahindra Thar are two popular models in the segment. However, in terms of sales, the Thar has gone far ahead of the Jimny. Maruti Suzuki frowned after seeing Jimny’s sales in January.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Mahindra Thar: Which is more popular?

Many may not know, Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one of the most popular models of the company in the international market. Maruti Suzuki could not contain this greed of popularity. So they launched the car in the Indian market in 2023. Thought he would win everyone’s love by beating Thar. But Maruti never imagined the sand that will fall in that molasses. In January 2024, Jimny sold a total of 163 units. Over 6,000 models of Thar have been sold there. The Indo-Japanese organization is worried.

Mahindra Thar was first launched in 2020. The car was able to get a huge response in the market from the very beginning. Popularity is high, so the waiting period is also long. Statistics show that a total of 3,104 Indians took home the Jimny model in August 2023. A month later, in September, sales fell to 2,651 units. Again, the amount of sales in October, November and December stood at 1,852 units, 1,020 units and 730 units respectively.

On the other hand, Thar sold 5,793 units in December last year. It increased its sales to 6,059 units in January this year. Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is sold through the company’s premium dealer NEXA. Its price ranges from 12.74 lakhs to 14.79 lakhs (ex-showroom). However, Suzuki launched the cheapest variant of Jimny in December 2023. It is priced at Tk 10.74 lakh (ex-showroom).

Whereas the rear wheel drive model of the Mahindra Thar costs Tk 11.25 lakh (ex-showroom). And its top-end model is priced at Tk 17.20 lakh (ex-showroom). It has automatic transmission and diesel engine.
