Music superstars Kat Valdez and Bastian are due to get married before a global audience but moments before this was due to happen she finds out he had been cheating on her so marries a random person in the audience who just happened to be Charlie Gilber who was a a Maths teacher.

The thing is though Charlie didn’t even want to be at that concert and was dragged by his daughter Lou and best friend Parker Debbs, he wasn’t a fan of the music or anything and just happened to be holding Parker’s sign with “Marry Me” on it and the rest was quite frankly about to change everything about his life as he knew it.
He didn’t have anything complicated going on, he was divorced and shared custody of his daughter Lou, a good father to her and was very focused on his job as a Maths teacher. Really enjoying all of that, we even quickly find out that he didn’t have a smartphone so that is something that quickly changes due to entering the world of celebrities.
The film does highlight how crazy and ridiculous it is for people who are in the limelight and don’t get any time for themselves, but also do actually do anything for themselves in terms of organising a day or travel. Everything is done for them, I mean in someways it does seem quite good but then the highlighting of how bad the press can be is certainly a downside.
Obviously everything about the plot is easy to guess, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. It is watchable throughout and I couldn’t help but think that it was in someways an updated version of Notting Hill, just swapping an actress for a music star, with your average man being then pulled into that world. Very loosely of course as naturally they don’t get married in Notting Hill and its more of a love story than this one, but I stand by that slight comparison.
Owen Wilson is such a likeable character as Charlie and that firmly has the viewer behind and supporting him from start to finish, he really does come across as down to earth and not someone who ever wanted to be famous. John Bradley certainly helped hold everything together and I really enjoyed how his character Colin came across. Chloe Coleman was also good in a supporting role alongside Sarah Silverman, who added some comedic moments. Then Jennifer Lopez in the leading role was engaing enough, and quite frankly given her life and music background not really much of a stretch to play this character.
