Late yesterday afternoon Deadline broke the news that True Blood creator Alan Ball has tapped a successor should the HBO series be picked up for a 6th season. Mark Hudis has served as co-executive producer and a writer of several episodes throughout seasons 4 and 5.

If the show is picked up for another season, Hudis would be promoted to showrunner/executive producer according to a 2 year overall deal signed with HBO which also includes a development component.

Prior to True Blood, Hudis and Ball worked as writers for the sitcom Cybill but met years prior while working for the publication AdWeek.

Congratulations to Mark Hudis!

An announcement for True Blood Season 6 is expected sometime this summer either way.
