With one whole week off of school, our family is hitting the road and out on different day trips. So far we’ve watched maple syrup being made and learned about tree tapping and birds of prey at Mountsberg Conservation Area. We’ve also checked out the airplanes at the Canadian Heritage Warplane museum in Hamilton.
Today we had a trip to the Metro Toronto Zoo in drizzly weather. The rain chased away the crowds so we practically had the place to ourselves. Luckily the Zoo has some wonderful pavilions so you feel (for a few minutes) like you’re on a tropical holiday
Our family takes advantage of membership prices for all of these places, so our holiday is very affordable. Pack a picnic lunch and you have a cheap & easy outing!
The only hiccup so far has been Baby Dunk. As a new walker, he’s had some big missteps. On Sunday he picked up one of my ‘visions’ brand glass pots & tried to carry it. He loves carrying around pots & small trays. He will use wooden spoons to ‘cook.’
He dropped the glass pot and it broke. Poor Dunk needed two stitches in his lip. We are still not sure how that happened, but count ourselves fortunate things were not worse. When Dunk returned from the hospital with two fresh stitches in his bottom lip he ate a whole plate of pancakes & sausage. Clearly not any worse for wear.
Today at the Zoo Dunk was toddling around on the uneven ground and fell, landing face first in a pile of gravel. Of course, he got a nosebleed. Once we wiped the gravel off his face he was pretty scraped up too.
Again, he’s been very cheerful through these injuries & is still busy exploring the world.
