National Tolkien Reading Day (2003)
-- An annual event, launched by The Tolkien Society in 2003, taking place on March 25th. It has the aim of encouraging the reading of the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, and the use of Tolkien's works in education and library groups. The date of March 25th was chosen in honor of the fall of Sauron, in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The day was originally suggested by columnist Sean Kirst, of the Syracuse, NY Post-Standard newspaper. He has since organized Tolkien Reading Days every year since 2008.

National Lobster Newburg Day
- Invented at New York culinary institution Delmonico's during the height of its heyday in the late 1800s, Lobster Newburg was initially named Lobster Wenburg after Ben Wenburg, a wealthy sea captain who frequented the restaurant quite often. However, when a dispute arose between Wenburg and management, they made the decision to rename the dish lobster Newburg.

Old New Year's Day/Lady Day/Feast of the Annunciation
- Along with the American colonies, Britain used the Julian calendar and observed New Year's Day on March 25th, Lady Day, also known as the Feast of the Annunciation. It wasn't until 1752 when Britain started using the Gregorian calendar and changed New Year's Day to January 1st.
Maryland Day (1634)
- Commemorates arrival of Lord Baltimore's first settlers at Maryland on March 25, 1634.
National Waffle Day
- This holiday originated in Sweden and soon spread like a batter all over the world. It started as a yearly tradition on March 25th, a day in which the people of Sweden celebrate Vårfrudagen (
Our Lady's Day), a religious holiday nine months before Christmas, sounding similar to the Swedish word for a waffle (Våffeldagen). The holiday also coincides with the Feast of the Annunciation, and the start of spring in Sweden and Europe. It became a custom for Swedish families to celebrate the two events by making waffles on this day.
International Day of Remembrance of The Victims of Slavery and The Transatlantic (2007)
- In commemoration of the memory of the victims, the General Assembly, in its resolution 62/122 of December 17, 2007, declared March 25th the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, to be observed annually. The resolution called for the establishment of an outreach program to mobilize educational institutions, civil society, and other organizations to inculcate in future generations the
causes, consequences, and lessons of the transatlantic slave trade, and to communicate the dangers of racism and prejudice.
