Mannequin Pussy are set to release their third album ‘Patience’ on 21 June via Epitaph. The outspoken and political band have been making waves in the States and this song finds Marisa Dabice trading her impassioned screams for something more considered as she examines the importance of self-empowerment.
Amidst Dude York-meets-Charly Bliss power punk-pop riffs, the song opens with lyrics about looking in the mirror and wishing you were somebody else before taking an about turn into something more reassuring and powerful around the 90-second mark: ‘You don’t have to change. I felt the Earth move in your eyes. I get excited by your side’; ‘I know they want to get you to be the kind of person they’d rather see but you don’t have to change’
